ŽPCG Introduces Online Tickets: A More Convenient Way to Travel by Train in Montenegro

Traveling by train in Montenegro has become significantly more convenient. Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore (ŽPCG) has introduced online ticket sales in July 2026, allowing passengers to purchase train tickets from home instead of having to visit a railway station in advance.

For travellers, this is a welcome improvement. Until recently, buying a train ticket often meant making an extra trip to the station, particularly if you wanted to make sure you had your ticket before the day of travel. With the new online system, passengers can plan their journey, select their connection and purchase their ticket without leaving home.This makes train travel in Montenegro much more convenient, especially for tourists. Someone planning a journey from Podgorica to Bar, Nikšić or another destination can now arrange their train ticket before arriving in Montenegro. There is no need to find the railway station, wait at the ticket counter or make a separate journey simply to buy a ticket.

The new system also brings train travel a little closer to the convenience that passengers have come to expect from bus travel. Bus companies in Montenegro and throughout the Balkans have increasingly offered online booking, allowing travellers to compare connections and purchase tickets directly from their phone or computer. With online tickets, ŽPCG is now providing a similar basic convenience for railway passengers.

The biggest advantage is simple: you can buy your train ticket when you are ready to plan your journey, rather than having to plan a separate visit to the station.

For international travellers, this can be particularly useful. Visitors can organize their train journey before their trip and arrive in Montenegro knowing that their transportation is already arranged. A digital ticket can also be kept on a smartphone, making the entire process easier.
